A quick bit about me

My name is Smyth, I co-own Rugged Woman Apparel LLC with my boyfriend Chris, he is incredibly supportive and has given me the courage to take risks and put, not only myself,  but my creative works out there to share with the world!

We do not have any children, but we do have a dog, Bella. She is my shadow.

I am an Art Teacher at two local elementary schools where my students feed my enthusiasm for creativity. You can take a peek at that IG page here: miss_b_teaches_art

My story for RWA goes back o my childhood, so let's rewind.

I never pictured myself as being fashionable. Sure, when I was very young, I loved dressing up. I changed my outfit three to four times a day, just so I could wear different clothes. I loved the colors and the patterns. As I grew older, I was never cool or popular and the only time I dressed to fit the current fad, was around my birthday when my relatives bought me new clothes. I think a lot of this is because I am the oldest of four and money was tight. By my teenage years, my parents were going through a divorce; now my clothes came from kind hearted family members and friends as they cleaned out their closets. By the time I got something ‘cool’ it was NOT cool anymore, so I reverted to dressing classically.

Now that I am older, I value the struggles I had in my past. It taught me to appreciate what I did have, and to modify what was available to me to turn it into my own style. I learned to focus less on pop culture and clothing. I became more resourceful and creative, and designed clothing that I felt expressed me on an individual level.

School Starts Monday

I start school Monday... 2 days from now (not even) 1 day and a few hours...

And I am so full of emotions.

Excitement about the new beginnings, and to see my students again. Yes, I missed them!

Joy for the fresh start.

Curiosity, What will this year hold? What new challenges will If ace? What will be my student's interests? How will I be able to reach my students this year? What connections will we make?

I am really looking forward to trying some new projects... I Have a long list of exciting new idea... and I can't wait to revisit some favorite projects. All summer I've been adding toa list of the things "we'll have to do".

But then,

I am anxious for the new start for many of the same reasons that I am excited or curious... It's odd how the same things can evoke completely different feelings.

I'm even feeling a bit of dread... not for school, or even the next 9(10) months.. but for the nitty gritty, and the grind.

If I am to be honest, I have not set foot in either of my classrooms yet.. And I am sure that is where some of this dread is coming from. Sure, I have been preparing for school. I have my first day lessons planned. I have a pile of new posters to hang on the walls, and banners to line the halls with and welcome our students back with. They are sitting on my dining room table, and stored in my supply closet at school... I had the foresight at the end of last year, to prepare for the start of this year... But I have yet to visit the school.

I spent my summer working at Heritage Farm Pancake house. I am helping organize a (going to be awesome) Renaissance Faire. And spent far too much time fighting with automobile issues.
Now it is time to snap into school.

I guess it is alright, that I have not spent time there. It means I was able to wrap up my other projects; bring them to conclusion.
Tomorrow, I will pull the rest of my school essentials together... and I will be able to return to school open-minded, focused, and undivided!

Monday, Here I come!

Thanks Giving

Last night, after a full day of driving, we arrived safely at my Uncle's beautiful cabin on the lake. A quiet, serene place; as my sister put it, "Its quite magical."

Being here, reminds me to appreciate life. I think of all I have to be thankful for; our health, our happiness, our families; near and far. Even more, that we are able to spend time with family members, whom we don't see often enough.

Tonight, is a night for Thanksgiving.

Tomorrow, see will spend some time setting up for the annual Craft fair here in town. Another one of my blessings.

Four years ago, the town chamber of commerce approved my application to participate in the Fort Kent Craft Fair. This is a juried fair, and is not easy to get into. Many years ago, my grandfather sold his paintings at this same fair. Now, I am privileged to take part in the same tradition. It is a bittersweet feeling for me each year.

I sit here by the wood stove, the gentle warmth filling me, and reflect.

Feeling proud and very excited

Earlier this summer, a good friend of mine agreed to photograph some of my creations for me. We brought a variety of my newest pieces over and went wild (-ish).

It is was a wonderful afternoon of playing in the garden amidst the plants and flowers .. I am forever grateful! I have to admit, staging some of the photos was quite a task and absolutely hilarious, but they came out great!

You may, or may not know. That beyond Rugged Woman Apparel LLC., I am also, a school teacher. I teach Art at two of the elementary schools in our community.

I love my job and it is surprising how well it ties into running this business.

The last few weeks have felt like a whirlwind, between working at the pancake house, getting ready for school and packing in a few day trips before my "summer vacation" came to an end.

It is amazing how quickly the summer flew by.

I spent Monday working to get my classrooms ready for the year and yesterday the kiddos started school!!

Over the next few weeks I will be finding the balance between school and working on some new items for RWA... I do have several things up my sleeve that I cannot wait to share!!

This is new to me.

This is new to me. I haven't had a blog in years. But I know it is time to "Bite the Bullet" and get my website up and running, and for that I am very excited!

Welcome to Rugged Woman Apparel LLC !!

I have some very exciting business news that I will be sharing within the next month or two (shhh...) But big things are definitely in the works. I will be sharing sneak peeks here as well as on my Facebook and Instagram pages as time goes on.

This is a big deal for me, I want to scream it from the rooftops! But I will have to keep it to myself. It is going to be hard not to blurt things out!
